How I started my Second Life:

I first logged on to Second Life back in April of 2006. I didn't quite understand the concept nor did I have the time to really investigate what was going on, but lets look back a little....

I've been online since the mid 1980's. I ran a successful Bulletin Board System or BBS for some that remember. The early days of BBS required a knowledge of the PC and data packets. I ran a 10 line system using a multi-tasking package called Desqview 386. There was no "Windows" or "Internet". Some BBS software packages such as PC-Board or WildCat were not open source. However RBBS was. It was programmed in Basic and a group of people would run their own home brewed versions of it. It truly was a labor of love.

Later on, I got involved with the early stages of 3D graphics in an attempt to make my BBS .GIF files more realistic looking. I started rendering 3D images using software packages called Truespace and Pixar's Renderman.

I hate the Internet!

Yes I do. It was the internet that put an end to my BBS system and a group of people that worked artistically together. As the internet exploded it became just a matter of time where people were no longer concerned what anyone else was actually doing. Look at Myspace for example, over a million personal pages, people with 1000's of friends, yet post a bulletin to your 1000 friends and maybe 2 will respond to it.... OK maybe 6.

A Second Chance:

By December of 2006 I purchased some virtual land and became a premium member. I realized that since I can script, texture, and work in 3D, that it shouldn't be too long before I get a handle on how this "thing" works. I have met many people who have helped me learn the ropes, especially those Second Life Hobos. Second Life to me has redefined BBS.

My Real Life?

I have none.
